Biography
World Cup winning captain Bobby Moore was an inspiration on the field, but never showed any such abilities in his time at Southend. He did have the off the field problems associated with Anton Johnson to contend with, but his first year in charge saw relegation from the third division and in his second a slide towards the re-election places in division 4. In fact it was only a penalty scored by Steve Philips in towards the end of the last game of the season (after nearly 600 minutes without a goal) that saved the Blues from needing to apply for re-election.

Despite his poor record he still had the backing of the board and it was a surprise when he resigned. Bobby went on to become a director of the club and remained one until his untimely death.
